FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – As the Florida Highway Patrol continues to search for the person responsible for a hit-and-run crash that left three people dead in Volusia County over the weekend, co-workers and loved ones are remembering two of the victims who were married to each other.
On Saturday, three people, including Jorge Salinas, the Flagler County’s Deputy Administrator, and his wife, Nancy, were killed in a chain reaction hit-and-run crash on Interstate 4 in Volusia County.
The wreck occurred around 9:55 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-4 in the Deltona area, near mile marker 108, troopers said.
Andrew Dance is the county’s chair and worked for Salinas for years. He says he always had a smile on his face.
“Jorge was always approachable, he was dedicated to his job, worked hard and was a veteran,” he said.
The FHP found the suspect’s car; however, they are still searching for the person that caused the crash.
“I hope and I’m confident that law enforcement will bring the person to justice. You don’t flee an accident that harms others and a tragedy,” said Dance.
Dance says Salinas was a loving husband, father of two, along with being dedicated to the community.
“I will miss the time that we spent together problem-solving for the benefit of Flagler County,” he said.
Dance goes on to say, “Jorge will be specially remembered for the work that he did on our website transparency page; he is solely responsible for the idea and implementation.”
He hopes for justice for the families involved in the crash and says Salinas will always be in their hearts.
“He was a man of faith, a military man, so we thank him for his service not just for the county but to the country, as well. So he leaves a legacy we all can emulate,” said Dance.
As of Wednesday, the FHP has no new updates in the case.
The crash remains an active criminal investigation, the report states.
