Orlando Ballet opens season with ‘Swan Lake’ performance

One of the most legendary ballets in the history of dance to feature 85 performers

ORLANDO, Fla.Orlando Ballet is starting its 2025-26 season with a show featuring a bird that’s representative of the City Beautiful.

“Swan Lake” has choreography by Christopher Stowell and live music from the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s 56 musicians under Guest Conductor Gabriel Gordon.

Set to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s beloved music, the show follows the story of Prince Siegfried and Odette, a princess cursed by an evil sorcerer to live as a swan. The entire flock that surrounds her is bound by the same spell. The prince and princess meet by a moonlit lake and it sparks a love that could break the curse, but a deception from the sorcerer’s daughter, Odile, threatens their chance at freedom.

During the performance, the leading ballerina embodies both Odette, the White Swan, and Odile, the Black Swan.

“Swan Lake” will feature 85 dancers, including 28 students from Orlando Ballet’s school, ranging in age 7 and up.

The show runs inside at Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Oct. 16-19.
