160-year-old Seminole County home threatened by road project, owner says

News 6 speaks with Rebecca Burke

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Some in Seminole County are worried about losing their homes because of a new two-mile connector linking State Road 417 directly to Orlando Sanford International Airport.

The route, which the Central Florida Expressway Authority voted to move forward with Thursday, could cut through part of a residential area.

News 6 Seminole County Community Correspondent Catherine Silver spoke to one homeowner, Rebecca Burke, who owns a historic home built in 1865. She said the new route takes her house and cuts her neighborhood in half.

Burke said she only found out about the meeting on Tuesday, adding that while she understands the need for infrastructure, it’s taking an emotional toll on her.

“My husband just passed away a year ago in August,” she said. “There’s a lot of memories here in this home.”

She said that the house fell into disrepair at one point. They restored it and have had to move the house in the past for developers.
