DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A woman was found dead at a home in Daytona Beach last week, and four dogs may be to blame, according to the police department.
In a release, police said they responded to the home at 544 Spruce St. on Friday evening after receiving reports about “an unresponsive female suffering from severe injuries.”
“The victim’s boyfriend stated that he had gone to the residence after being unable to reach his girlfriend by phone,” the release reads. “Upon entering the home, he located her unresponsive on the floor and immediately contacted emergency services.”
Upon arrival, investigators said they found the woman — identified as Monica Emerson, 38 — inside with several injuries, along with four dogs running around freely.

Per police, the investigation suggests that Emerson may have experienced a “medical episode” that made her lose consciousness, during which time she was fatally attacked by the dogs.
Animal Control Services later responded to the scene and took custody of the four dogs, which include a large mixed-breed male and his three adult offspring, police added.
Investigators also said that the four dogs will be held for 10 days before being euthanized.
No additional information has been provided at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
