Tractor-trailer fire roasts tomatoes on I-75 in Sumter County

No injuries reported in fire, troopers said

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A tractor-trailer carrying tomatoes caught fire Monday on southbound I-75 near mile marker 333 in Sumter County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fire started around 2:30 a.m. due to a mechanical issue with the vehicle.

The driver worked quickly to disconnect the tractor from the trailer, which prevented the fire from spreading to the tractor. The trailer became fully engulfed in flames, troopers said.

Crews responded to the scene to manage the fire and traffic.

No injuries were reported.
