MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A death investigation is underway after human remains were found Sunday near South Highway 441, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the remains were found in Summerfield before 7 p.m. by a citizen.
The remains were later confirmed to be human.
The sheriff’s office said it is working to ID the person and determine manner of death.

“At this time, there is insufficient evidence to determine whether the remains are related to any active MCSO case,” the sheriff’s office said.
The discovery comes days after another death investigation was launched when human remains were found in Marion Oaks.
The sheriff’s office said the cases are unrelated.
