‘Blow that f***** school up:’ Mom accused of threatening to bomb Rockledge High School

Brandie Covington, 40, faces charge of threatening to discharge destructive device

Brandie Covington, 40 (Brevard County Jail)

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. – A Brevard County woman was arrested this week after she reportedly threatened to burn down Rockledge High School, according to the police department.

In an arrest affidavit, police said they received a report about the incident on Tuesday after the woman — identified as Brandie Covington, 40 — called the school to complain.

“Covington was irate because her daughter’s boyfriend had his school-supplied lunch taken away from him due to lack of funds in his account,” the affidavit reads. “(The employee) began to explain the school’s process of dealing with students without money in their account, and Covington began to yell and cuss at her.”

Per investigators, the employee tried to de-escalate the situation, but Covington instead said that after she visited the district offices, “I’ll be over there to blow that (expletive) school up.”

Covington then hung up, the affidavit shows.

Just a few minutes later, though, the assistant principal’s office received a similar call from Covington, who threatened to “burn the school down” before again hanging up, police wrote.

Police later showed up to Covington’s home, where she admitted to the calls, though she denied threatening to harm the school, investigators explained.

Regardless, Covington was arrested and now faces a charge of threatening to discharge a destructive device. She was released on Thursday on bond of $75,000.
