Eustis residents return home as Creek Run Lane reopens

EUSTIS, Fla. – Residents of Creek Run Lane in Eustis returned home Thursday evening after crews completed emergency road repairs in just six days, marking a significant milestone in the city’s recovery from last month’s devastating floods.

Fire Chief Michael Swanson announced the reopening at 5 p.m., culminating a round-the-clock effort that compressed what would typically be a four-month project into less than a week.

“I’m proud to announce that this road is now open, both lanes!” Swanson declared as residents celebrated their return with honking horns and cheers.

The project became necessary after floodwaters destroyed a culvert under the road leading to homes on Creek Run Lane, effectively cutting off vehicular access to the neighborhood. Residents had been unable to drive to their homes for two weeks before repairs were completed.

Multiple contractors collaborated on the accelerated timeline, working day and night to restore access to the neighborhood. The final phase of the project concluded Thursday afternoon with the paving of the road surface, ensuring safe passage for returning residents.

While this project’s completion marks a victory for Creek Run Lane residents, work continues elsewhere in Eustis. City officials are now turning their attention to other roads damaged during last month’s floods as recovery efforts continue throughout the community.
