As a nor’easter continued to pummel the coastlines of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia on Saturday morning, the major king tide flooding in the St. Augustine area forced closures of several roads and shut down the Bridge of Lions.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Waves of heavy rain remain possible across Central Florida Sunday as deep tropical moisture from Tropical Storm Gamma, moving away from Florida, surges in. On and off light rain will continue through the morning with heavier rain and storms developing in the afternoon. Tropical Storm Gamma forms in Caribbean, heavy rain coming to Central Florida
***11:24 10/2/20 UPDATE***Tropical Storm Gamma has formed over the northwestern Caribbean Sea. The tropical storm is 75 miles south of Cozumel Mexico with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph moving northwest at 9 mph. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Cabo Catoche Mexico and a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for South of Punta Herrero to Puerto Costa Maya Mexico and west of Cabo Catoche to Dzilam Mexico. Central Florida won’t see direct impacts over the weekend from Tropical Storm Gamma, but the moisture associated with the storm will impact the Sunshine State. Streets, yards flood in Volusia County after almost a foot of rain was recorded
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Residents in Volusia County woke up to more than a puddle Sunday as floodwaters overtook yards and streets. According to city officials, the City of Edgewater has recorded rainfall of 8.55 inches at the Waste Water Treatment Plant on Mango Tree Drive and 11.6 inches at the Water Treatment Plant at State Road 442 and I-95. “City crews have been responding to the effects of this rainfall since 7:00 p.m. last evening (Saturday, September 19, 2020). “It would appear so since nearly a foot of rain has fallen in at least one area of the City.”Three locations are open for resident access to sand piles. Flooding possible in Marion County with isolated storms across Central Florida
ORLANDO, Fla. – A lot of Central Florida will be dry Saturday, but a few storms are expected to develop later in the day. While storms Saturday afternoon will be isolated in nature, the rain will be heavy in any storm that gets going. Parts of Marion County received up to 3 inches of rain Friday night and as a result, Marion County is under a Flash Flood Watch until 10 p.m. Saturday. New report provides clues to origin of Gotha flooding problems
GOTHA, Fla. – A new engineering report may have uncovered clues in the chaos surrounding flooding issues with land-locked lakes in one West Orange County community. Last year, News 6 detailed the record flooding in the Gotha area, specifically at Lake Fischer, Lake Nally, Lake Hugh, Mills Pond and Gotha Pond, as neighbors searched for answers as to what was causing the flooding. As a result, Orange County leaders commissioned a $200,000 study into matter in November. David Hamstra with Pegasus Engineering co-authored the report, entitled Gotha Lakes Watershed Management Plan Update. “There are other lakes in West Orange County that have the same problem, which leads us to believe this is primarily rainfall driven.
