MARION COUNTY, Fla. – The former Marion County deputy who fatally shot his girlfriend while they were allegedly cleaning guns last year has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Leslie Boileau, 33, was convicted of manslaughter in October and was sentenced Friday in Marion County court, records show.
Boileau told Ocala police that he and his girlfriend had just returned from dinner on Sept. 19, 2024, when she allegedly asked him to show her how to use guns.
“She was like, I want you to teach me how to use them, I want you to teach me how to use them, Ok we will, we will, we will. We were pointing them at each other, and the gun went off,” Boileau told police, according to the probable cause affidavit (sic).
First responders located the woman, identified as Polina Wright, “obviously deceased, sustaining a gunshot wound to her forehead,” the affidavit states.
“I know this looks really bad,” Boileau spontaneously uttered, according to police. “I told her I did not want this to happen (...) I did not want to train her in the (expletive) house like this.”
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said Boileau was immediately terminated after having worked as a deputy for eight years.
Weighing both Boileau’s previous background as a law enforcement officer and victim impact statements given by Wright’s family, Judge Timothy McCourt sentenced Boileau to 25 years, 8 months, and 20 days in prison. The unique sentence was rendered in thoughtful homage to the victim, who was exactly 25 years, 8 months, and 20 days old the night she was killed.
