Woman beaten, dragged across Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach, deputies say

Scott Glen Knowlton is now wanted, Volusia deputies said

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A man is wanted after deputies said he was caught beating, chasing and dragging a woman across Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach on Thursday.

In a release, the sheriff’s office said a deputy saw the incident as it was happening and stepped in, but the man — identified as Scott Glen Knowlton — took off running.

However, Knowlton also left behind his bag, revolver, methamphetamine and fentanyl, deputies added.

News 6 on Friday spoke with the Volusia County deputy who intervened.

“I’ve been doing this a long time and I’ve dealt with a lot of bad people,” Chief Deputy Brian Henderson said. “This is a bad guy.”

Henderson said he was on his way home Thursday, driving north on Atlantic Avenue, when he saw a woman who appeared to be visibly upset while standing in the road.

“I see this guy come across A1A towards her and she attempts to run from him,” Henderson recounted. “He reached out to grab her as she was nearing the sidewalk, and they both fell into the traffic lane.”

Surveillance video released by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Friday showed a man who deputies identified as Knowlton hitting the woman and dragging her in his direction. The video ends with the two individuals walking out of frame and Henderson’s vehicle trailing them.

“By the time I was able to get there, he’d actually dragged her into an alleyway and was forcefully dragging her towards the parking garage,” Henderson said.

Henderson said that when Knowlton saw him, Knowlton ran.

Henderson and another deputy went to check on the victim.

“All she continued to tell me is, ‘He’s going to kill me,’” Henderson said.

Now, Knowlton is wanted and faces charges of trafficking fentanyl, kidnapping, battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and more, the release shows.

The agency is offering $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of Knowlton.

Anyone who sees Knowlton or has information about his whereabouts is urged to call 911.
