‘$1K richer:’ Tipster helps Volusia deputies find wanted man accused of beating, dragging girlfriend, sheriff says

Scott Knowlton found near Ormond Beach

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood says a wanted man who recently beat, chased, and dragged his girlfriend on camera has been arrested.

Scott Knowlton was arrested Saturday at a home in the 1100 block of Avenue G, near Ormond Beach, Chitwood said on social media.

The sheriff’s office since Thursday has posted various footage from its investigation, including surveillance video that Chitwood said showed Knowlton battering his girlfriend.

“VSO Chief Deputy Brian Henderson saw it happening and stepped in, but Knowlton took off running, leaving behind his bag, revolver, and trafficking amounts of meth and fentanyl. He’s currently wanted on several outstanding warrants including trafficking fentanyl, plus new charges including kidnapping, battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and more,” Chitwood wrote, adding a $1,000 reward was being offered for information leading to Knowlton’s arrest.

Following what was described as several hours of surveillance on Avenue G, Knowlton was allegedly seen exiting the home on Saturday while wearing a hoodie and sunglasses, according to the sheriff’s office’s latest posts on the matter.

“Upon realizing he was spotted, Scott ran back inside, then jumped out a rear window,” Chitwood said. “Unfortunately for him, the house was surrounded. Scott tried to run again but realized he might as well surrender in the (backyard).”

Chitwood said it was a tipster after all who led Volusia deputies to that home.

“A tipster who will remain anonymous is $1K richer thanks to the info that helped make this arrest possible,” the sheriff wrote.
