Police said they made contact with the victim, who had a bloody nose, blood on her lips, and blood on her chin.
According to the affidavit, the victim and Harrell do not live together, but have been in a relationship for over a year.
Police said a group, including the couple, drove to DeLand to “go have drinks at a bar” when Harrell became upset when one of the individuals began talking with another person. After a verbal argument, Harrell used an open palm to push one of the people in the group away before they all left the bar, where the argument continued inside of the vehicle on the way back to the Shady Place address.
After being ordered out of the vehicle because of the argument, Harrell and the victim took an Uber back to Daytona Beach.
Once back at the Shady Place residence, the victim entered the home, and Harrell “aggressively walks towards her,” while she tried to gather her belongings.
Police said Harrell then pushed the victim onto the bed, punched her in the head and told her “she better not threaten her again.”
After getting her belongings and exiting the residence, Harrell punched the victim in the nose and mouth with a closed fist, at which point her nose began to bleed.
According to the affidavit, the victim did not want to press charges, but Harrell was taken into custody and taken to the Volusia County jail, where she faces a charge of battery with great bodily harm.
“This type of behavior is not representative of the values of the Daytona Beach Police Department, and the officer will be held accountable in accordance with departmental policy and the law,” the release said in part.
Daytona Beach police said the investigation is ongoing and Harrell has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
