ORLANDO, Fla. – Former mayor of Orlando Glenda Hood will be honored Friday as the city renames a park along Lake Baldwin.

Harbor Park will be renamed during an event starting at 10:30 a.m., according to the city’s website.

In a statement, the city describes Hood as a central figure in its history.

Hood served three terms as Orlando’s mayor starting in 1992 before going on to serve more than a decade in the Orlando City Council and later take on the role of Florida Secretary of State from 2003 to 2005, the statement reads.

Among her most significant impacts include her leadership in the transformation of the city’s large military training facility after it closed, into the area now known as Baldwin Park. She championed the city’s master plan that is now a global model for adaptive re-use and urban redevelopment.
