APOPKA, Fla. – An 18-year-old man is accused of carjacking a driver in Apopka before trying to take a gun from one of the arresting officers, according to police.

Alexander Garraud faces charges of carjacking, attempted unlawful possession of a law-enforcement firearm, battery on a law-enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence and resisting an officer without violence, the Apopka Police Department said in a news release.

Officers were called around 9 p.m. Wednesday to the area of Old Dixie Highway and Citrus Avenue, where a victim reported they had stopped at a stop sign when a man later identified as Garraud approached their vehicle while waving his arms and yelling for help, according to the release.

Garraud is accused of then opening one of the victim’s doors, pulling the driver out by their arms and shoulders, and driving away in the vehicle, the release states.

Officers responded after Garraud had only made it a short distance, police said. After exiting the vehicle and trying to run away, Garraud was soon reached by pursuing officers who reported that he then began to resist and fight with them.

The 18-year-old allegedly tried to remove an officer’s firearm from its holster while he was being taken into custody, according to the release.

Records show Garraud was being held without bond at the Orange County jail at the time of this writing.
