ORLANDO, Fla. – A well-known bar in downtown Orlando announced that it is set to close its doors permanently this month.
The bar — Tanqueray’s at 100 S. Orange Ave. — made the announcement on Friday via Facebook.
“The city has not been kind to the local bars in the downtown entertainment district since 2023, that have been in existence for a long time,” the post reads. “Tanqueray’s, specifically, for 37 years in March.”
The post also states that the building owner isn’t renewing the lease, forcing the owner to make the decision.

“I am humbled at the patronage our ‘regulars’ have participated in over the years, along with all the magnificent local musicians that have performed at our venue,” the post continues. “Your continued support has made Tanq’s an exceptional live music destination for many years.”
Many are stopping by Tanqueray’s one last time, sharing memories and saying their goodbyes.
“It’s gonna put a hurt on the people that know Tanqueray’s,” said Johnny Velez, an Orlando resident. “When they come downtown, they know Tanqueray’s is the spot. The band puts on a good show.”
The city rolled out new downtown ordinances following a mass shooting in 2022, with additional changes after another mass shooting in 2024. Those measures included a pause on new nightclubs, changes to venue classifications, and a requirement for bars to obtain a permit to sell alcohol after midnight.
“I think it’s done nothing but hurt longtime business owners down here who have brought consistent business and consistent clientele,” said Jeff Maxson, an Orlando resident.
For many, the 36-year-old establishment is more than a bar; it’s a piece of downtown history.
“The ’90s are when I got into town, and the club district was a completely different animal back then. This is still one of the classics that’s held on,” Montis said.
“They’re like, ‘Yeah, Tanqueray’s is right here,’” Montis added. “I was like, I’ve never been—it’s in the basement. But when you go in, you see the environment, and everything feels cozy.”
Tanqueray’s will remain open during regular hours, closing only on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
It will host its final New Year’s Eve celebration on Dec. 31.
