DELTONA, Fla. – Volusia County deputies on Sunday morning arrested a man who’s accused of trying to break into a Deltona house where a teenage girl was home alone.
Richard Colon, 50, faces charges of obstructing an officer without violence, burglary of an occupied dwelling, child neglect and criminal mischief at or above $1,000, records show.
Colon’s arrest was recorded on body-worn cameras and shared to the sheriff’s office’s social media. The video shows deputies with their guns drawn approaching a home and speaking with Colon, who is soon seen exiting a screened-in patio with some difficulty before being taken down and handcuffed.
According to the post, the girl in the home ran out the back door and made it to a neighbor’s house. Colon had allegedly bent and damaged the patio door before he "broke off the handle to the door leading into the house," investigators said.
Colon didn’t explain what he was doing at the house and “appeared highly intoxicated” during the arrest, the post states.
He has since posted $17,000 bond and was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail on Monday.
