ORLANDO, Fla. – Cult grocery store darling Trader Joe’s is coming to east Orange County.

Orange County permitting records show Trader Joe’s is looking to open a location at 1444 N. Alafaya Trail in the Waterford Lakes area, in the same shopping plaza as Hobby Lobby.

Permit documents were submitted last month.

The storefront Trader Joe’s will be moving into used to be a Party City. That company closed all its stores in February 2025 after filing for bankruptcy.

Last month, News 6’s Osceola County Correspondent Laverne McGee reported that Trader Joe’s was also looking at opening a location in Maitland and another at The Loop in Kissimmee.

It’s all part of Trader Joe’s continued nationwide expansion.

The company opened dozens of new stores last year, including stores in Daytona Beach and Viera.

Trader Joe’s already has stores in Winter Park and in the Dr. Phillips area of Orlando.
