‘Potential use’ plans unveiled for 7 Orange County schools up for closure

No final decisions have been made, district says

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orange County Public Schools email details Tuesday on what may happen should the district follow through with plans to close seven schools.

The email, sent to OCPS staff, includes a table, labeled “Phase 1″ that lists the schools and the potential plans for them through fiscal year 2028.

Bonneville, Chickasaw, Eccleston, McCoy, Meadow Woods, and Orlo Vista elementary schools, and Union Park Middle School would all operate as schools this year.

Then, starting in fiscal year 2027, the schools are listed as undergoing conversion. That would start with the 2026-2027 school year.

In fiscal year 2028, Chickasaw Elementary would be the potential new home for Acceleration East, an alternative high school.

Eccleston Elementary would potentially become a pediatric health facility.

McCoy Elementary would potentially become a student enrollment and global welcome center.

Meadow Woods Elementary would become a community partner spaces/meeting center.

Orlo Vista Elementary would become the new home for Positive Pathways, another alternative school.

Union Park would become a building for facilities services.

The school district is looking at consolidating the seven schools because of declining student enrollment.

District staff are currently working on rezoning, and that process will have an impact on what students will do going forward, and needs to be hashed out before they can make a final decision on the school consolidation plan, according to a school district spokesperson.

The district is expected to hold meetings with each school’s community. The spokesperson for the school district says the schools are being notified about when those meetings will be.

Board meetings about the decision would not start until March.
