Domestic violence call becomes officer-involved shooting in Melbourne, police say

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Eau Gallie High School on Wednesday was briefly placed under a shelter-in-place order after an email threatened a possible bomb and shooting incident, Melbourne police said.

The message was received through the Brevard Public Schools email system on Wednesday and referenced a potential attack at the campus, according to a news release.

As a precaution, school officials and police initiated a shelter-in-place while officers and staff searched the grounds. Police said students and employees were kept in classrooms and common areas as movement around campus was restricted.

Nothing suspicious or dangerous was found during the search, and the school was released from the shelter-in-place status without incident, police said.

The threat remains under active investigation. Police did not immediately release details about the origin of the email or any potential suspects.
