WILDWOOD, Fla. – Wildwood utility crews on Wednesday responded to a water main break that the city said affected a “significant number” of utility customers.
The break occurred just south of the U.S. 301 and State Road 44 intersection, affecting utilities customers in and around the downtown area, a news release states.
The city says the damage to the 12-inch transmission main appeared to have been caused by limestone around the pipe. Officials believe the limestone and rock compromised the integrity of the pipe over time, which likely led to the rupture.
The pipe has been repaired, flushed, and returned to service, the city says.
Affected customers received a notice advising them to boil water as a precaution.
