No injuries reported after faulty mini-fridge sparks Palm Coast house fire, officials say

PALM COAST, Fla. – A “heavily involved” fire sparked by a faulty mini-refrigerator damaged a home on Friday evening, according to the Palm Coast Fire Department.

Officials said that crews arrived to find heavy fire pouring from the roof and thick smoke throughout the residence in the F-Section on Felshire Lane around 6:15 p.m. The homeowner told firefighters the fire began at the back of the home and quickly moved through the home.

Fire officials originally said the fire is believed to be electrical in nature but later clarified that the Fire Marshal determined the blaze originated from a faulty mini-refrigerator located on the porch.

Roughly three-quarters of the roof was burning when firefighters arrived, with the most intense conditions at the rear of the home. The occupants of the were already outside in the driveway, and crews confirmed no one was inside, according to fire crews.

Officials said that during the response, a propane tank and fireworks stored inside the home exploded, adding to the hazards. Fire crews remained on scene for an extended period due to the volume of fire and structural damage.

No injuries were reported to residents or firefighters.

The American Red Cross was notified to assist the displaced residents.
