Officials from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Ponce de Leon Inlet later posted on social media saying the teens were rescued after their 14-foot jon boat capsized and pushed them about 10 miles offshore.

“A strong cold front had moved through the area, bringing rapidly deteriorating conditions and wind gusts nearing 50 mph,” Coast Guard officials said.

New Smyrna Beach Fire Department officials said in addition to the Coast Guard, they were assisted by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and Volusia County Beach Safety.
