ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – A Longwood man was arrested for DUI manslaughter after a crash left a pedestrian dead, according to the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

The single-vehicle crash happened just before 7 p.m. on Friday, causing the closure of the eastbound lanes of State Road 436 between Wymore Road and Interstate 4.

When first responders arrived, they found a pedestrian unconscious in the roadway. The victim, who was identified as Gary Milanowski, was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspected driver, 27-year-old Adam Michael David Bass, remained at the scene. When police started questioning Bass, they reported smelling alcohol on Bass’ breath, bloodshot eyes, and a flushed face, the arrest report states.

Police said Bass agreed to perform field sobriety tests and observed clues of impairment. Bass was also handcuffed after he raised his arms and tried to flee while officers were placing cuffs on him.

Bass was charged with negligent vehicular homicide while under the influence and resisting an officer without violence.

He was booked into the Seminole County Jail, where he is being held on no bond.
