Bodycam video shows man’s arrest in Sumter County woods

Traffic stop attempt leads to foot chase

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A chase in Wildwood ended with a man in custody earlier this month after investigators say he ran off because he had a suspended license.

A post shared to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office’s social media states deputies and Wildwood police “spotted an individual driving with a suspended license” — identified as Eric Eugene Mobley — around 11 p.m. on Jan. 12.

A traffic stop was attempted on Main Street, but law enforcement allegedly backed off after Mobley sped up and began driving in a reckless manner, the post states. A deputy who responded several minutes later to a call about an unknown vehicle being parked in someone’s yard noted it was the same vehicle from before, according to the post.

The video shows the deputy chasing Mobley into a wooded area, where he was soon taken into custody without incident, the post states.

He faces charges of driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding at high speed, and resisting without violence, records show.
