Flagler County home health aide rearrested for stealing from seniors, deputies say

Katie Swain, 32, caught on video using stolen credit card, deputies say

BUNNELL, Fla. – A former home health aide in Flagler County was rearrested on Tuesday after a second senior victim came forward with allegations of theft, according to a news release from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

Katie Swain, 32, was initially arrested in late December 2025 after a month-long investigation revealed she had stolen cash and used a senior’s debit card for unauthorized purchases totaling more than $660.

The victim, a resident at HarborChase Assisted Living, noticed missing cash and fraudulent transactions on his bank statement. Security footage showed Swain using the stolen card for gas, snacks, groceries, and online purchases, the news release states.

According to deputies, management at HarborChase reported a second victim who experienced similar fraudulent activity while Swain was employed there. The victim reported $50 missing in cash and $2,700 in unauthorized debit card purchases.

Swain made 27 transactions, including buying a BJ’s Wholesale Club membership, food from several fast-food restaurants, sweets, gas station stops, and large purchases at Home Depot totaling over $800, deputies said.

“Swain’s a senior-scamming, serial-swiping, snack-stealing, soda-sipping, super-shopaholic, who’s seniors’ savings spending spree was stopped by detectives,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement. “She was entrusted to care for seniors but instead stole from them using their debit cards to buy things she really didn’t need thinking she could take advantage of them and not get caught. We greatly appreciate the cooperation from the many retailers who sent transaction reports and security camera video of Swain making these purchases.”

Swain was arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with Flagler County deputies on charges including theft from persons 65 or older, fraudulent use of a credit card, and unlawful use of personal identification.

She was booked into the Putnam County Jail and released on a $7,500 bond, in addition to a previous $10,000 bond.
