VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 16-year-old was arrested after threatening to “shoot up” DeLand High School, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the teen “made a bad decision” when he sent threatening messages through Instagram and text on Monday, then escalated the situation by telling a group chat he planned to shoot up the school.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators quickly identified the boy as the source of the messages.

Deputies said he was taken into custody and is facing a felony charge of making written threats to kill.
News 6 is not naming or showing the teen’s face due to his age.
The investigation remains active.
