ORLANDO, Fla. – Fay dissipated over the central Atlantic Tuesday, but its remnant low drifted into an area favorable for development early Wednesday. The storm was able to reorganize back into a tropical depression with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
Since the remnant low remained intact, Fay was able to keep its name upon regeneration.
The storm is expected to again strengthen into a tropical storm in the coming days before dissipating once again over the weekend.
Fay is no threat to land during its second stint.
Elsewhere in the Atlantic a tropical wave has emerged off the coast of Africa.
There is now a 60% chance for development near the Cabo Verde islands over the next seven days.
This storm is not a threat to the US. The next name on the list for the 2026 hurricane season is Gonzalo. Hurricane season runs through November.
