Ocala city officials said the water main break was caused by a contractor removing trees in the area.
All water used for brushing teeth, drinking, making ice, washing dishes or food preparation is advised to be brought to a boil until further notice. Alternatively, residents are advised to use bottled water if they are unable to use boiled water.
The boil water notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey shows the water is safe to drink.
