The notice was rescinded Sunday.

Ocala city officials said the water main break was caused by a contractor removing trees in the area.

“The City of Ocala Water Resources Department advises that the water is now safe to drink, cook with and conduct all normal daily activities. The lines in the affected area were flushed, and several samples were collected. Tests show that the water has had no signs of bacteria for two consecutive days, and the chlorine residual meets regulatory standards,” the city said in a statement Sunday.
