FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – An 11-year-old girl was arrested after a shooting threat was found on a bathroom wall at Indian Trails Middle School in Palm Coast, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
In a release, deputies said that the school was alerted on Tuesday to the threat, which read as follows:
“school shooting Feb 4th:)”
“School administrators and the School Resource Deputy immediately took action to identify, locate and arrest the student responsible for the threat,” the release reads.
Investigators said that the suspect — identified only as an 11-year-old girl — claimed that a person she spoke with online dared her to write the message on the wall.
“The juvenile also stated that she was bored and did not think this was going to be a big deal or a serious matter,” the release continues.
As a result, the girl was arrested and now faces a charge of writing a threat to commit a mass shooting or terrorism act.

“This is a great example of why we have School Resource Deputies on every Flagler Schools campus,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. “It allows us to take immediate action to quickly respond to any threat or incident.”
In addition, the FCSO urges parents to remain vigilant of what their children are doing online. Deputies say that children shouldn’t be communicating with anyone they don’t know online.
The FCSO also encourages residents to report tips on similar threats through the Fortify App or at the sheriff’s office’s website here.
