SR-40 reopens in Volusia County after 70-acre brush fire contained

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 70-acre brush fire prompted the closure of busy roadway Tuesday in Volusia County, officials said.

As of early Wednesday, the fire had scorched 70 acres but was 100% contained.

S.R. 40 was later reopened east of U.S. Highway 17 near Still Road.

Officials said they were joined by the Florida Forest Service and firefighters from DeLand and Flagler County “for instant stabilization and structure protection.”

Firefighters advised residents and motorists to be aware of smoke in the area.
