SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – News 6 has confirmed that a Seminole County teacher is under investigation after reportedly teaching about a “Genderbread” figure in the classroom.
Earlier this month, a viewer submitted a tip that the AP Literature teacher at Lake Howell High School used the figure in her lesson, which apparently sparked backlash among parents.
According to the tipster, the teacher used a slide from itspronouncedmetrosexual.com, which defines a “Genderbread Person” as a “cute, approachable model for understanding the social construction of gender, based on the input of thousands of voices over several decades.”
News 6 reached out to the district for more information on the teacher and what happened.
“This is under investigation, and the teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of said investigation,” responded District Communications Officer Katherine Crnkovich.
Under state law, classroom instruction on topics like sexual orientation or gender identity is prohibited if it’s considered not to be “developmentally appropriate” for students. It’s not the only rule that was imposed on teachers in the state, though.
Last year, another Central Florida teacher made headlines after she was told she would lose her job for calling a transgender student by a “preferred male nickname.”
