Seminole County teacher arrested, accused of sexual relationship with former student

SANFORD, Fla. – A teacher at Crooms Academy in Sanford was arrested Tuesday morning on allegations that she had an inappropriate relationship with a former student.

Mackenzie Lane McLean, 49, of Lake Mary, who teaches world history, U.S. government and economics at Crooms, was arrested on felony charges of an authority figure soliciting or engaging in sexual conduct with a student and distribution of a controlled substance.

A Seminole County Sheriff’s Office report states that detectives served McLean a warrant on the charges listed above and placed her under arrest.

Details abut McLean’s relationship with the former student have not been released.

McLean was booked into the Seminole County jail and was being held without bond.

Crooms Academy is a part of Seminole County Public Schools and is located at 2200 Historic Goldsboro Boulevard in Sanford.

According to the school’s website, “The mission of Crooms Academy of Information Technology is to provide innovative teaching and learning in a technology-enriched environment and to engage students in an academically challenging curriculum that prepares them for post-secondary education with industry-validated technology skills.”
