APOPKA, Fla. – An Orange County deputy who was arrested Friday in Apopka is accused of domestic violence, according to the sheriff’s office.

Shawn Ellis faces a charge of battery, records show.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said Shawn Ellis was hired in September 2024 and worked in the Uniform Patrol Division.

Ellis has since been relieved of all law-enforcement duties and was reassigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the criminal case, after which the sheriff’s office will conduct its own internal investigation, the release states.

“Domestic violence has no place in our community or this agency. We will conduct a complete and transparent investigation into these allegations, and the results will be made public,” Sheriff John Mina said in a statement. “Every deputy at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is held to the same laws they are sworn to enforce.”

This is a developing story and may be updated.
