16-year-old dies after being found unresponsive in Indian River, sheriff’s office says

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy who was found face-down in the Indian River on Saturday has died, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy, from Paisley, was on a group camping and fishing trip, the sheriff’s office said on social media. He was found unresponsive that morning near an island east of Maynard May Park in Edgewater, the post states.

The boy’s friends performed CPR on him and used a boat to get him to the park, where Edgewater police and EMS took him to a hospital, according to the post. There, he was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m., the post states.

No injuries were observed and no indications of any suspicious circumstances were found during the initial investigation, according to the sheriff’s office. An investigation remains active pending autopsy results, the sheriff’s office said.

“The Sheriff’s Office sends sincere condolences to (the boy’s) parents, family members and friends,” the post states.
