BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Brevard Public Schools announced on Friday that the district is recommending a teacher be fired after two students were discovered engaging in oral sex under his watch.
In a release, district officials said that the incident happened in September 2025 at Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School.
At the time, the teacher — identified as Dan Bennett, who is also the former president of the Brevard Federation of Teachers (BFT) — was responsible for supervising the two students, officials added.
“After learning what occurred, Mr. Bennett failed to report the incident to school administration or law enforcement, as required by law and district policy,” the release reads.

However, officials also said that the district learned about what happened just this week, so the case is scheduled for school board action on Tuesday.
Now, current BFT President Anthony Colucci is using union dues to challenge the disciplinary action against Bennett, district officials explained.
“In fact, (Colucci) initially asked the district to allow him to quietly retire and face no consequences,” the release continues.

During the March 10 school board meeting, board members will consider whether Bennett will be suspended without pay, as well as the district’s recommendation for his termination.
“Brevard Public Schools has maintained that student safety and accountability must come before shielding adults from consequences,” district officials concluded.
No additional information about the incident has been provided.
