Miami, Fla. – A woman stabbed a Florida Highway Patrol trooper in the head, neck and shoulder Saturday in Miami-Dade County, according to FHP.

The trooper was responding to a call about a vehicle driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of State Road 836 near NW 107th Avenue in Miami-Dade County.

The trooper located the vehicle in the grassy center median of SR 836 and made contact with a woman who had a young child in the car, FHP said.

While the trooper was interacting with the woman, she brandished a knife and stabbed the trooper in the head, neck and shoulder, prompting the trooper to fire his weapon and strike the woman, according to FHP.

Both the trooper and the woman were taken to HCA Kendall Trauma for treatment. The Florida Department of Children and Families took custody of the child.

FHP said the woman had active arrest warrants for child neglect, child abuse and fleeing and eluding law enforcement. The agency said the woman will be booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail after she is medically cleared.

The condition of the trooper and woman was not released.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting a standard review of the trooper’s use of force, FHP said.
