Grandmother seeks justice after teen struck, killed in Orlando

17-year-old Elijah Emmans faces charge of first-degree murder

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A Central Florida grandmother is demanding justice after deputies say a teenager intentionally ran over and killed her 17-year-old grandson in Orlando last November.

The crash happened along Wakulla Way near West Oak Ridge Road. Investigators say a 17-year-old suspect is now under arrest in connection with the case.

Ecstasy Mooty says her life changed in an instant when her grandson, 17-year-old Mikhail Cuba, was struck and killed while riding his e-bike in November along Wakulla Way near West Oak Ridge Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol initially handled the crash investigation before turning it over to the sheriff’s office homicide unit. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, surveillance video led investigators to believe the driver hit Cuba intentionally.

“I brought my family up here from Hollywood to give them a better life,” Mooty said. “And one little psycho that’s like a rabid animal destroyed all that.”

Investigators say 17-year-old Elijah Emmans was arrested last week on a warrant for first-degree murder. Mooty says she recently saw the suspect in court and believes he showed no remorse.

“I saw who killed my grandson yesterday,” Mooty said. “He had no remorse on his face. Not at all.”

Mooty also claims Emmans was part of a group that bullied Mikhail so severely that the teen eventually left Oak Ridge High School.

“I hope they give him the death penalty,” Mooty said. “Because the child you were is not yourself. You’re not human anymore.”

She says the loss also deeply affected her daughter — Mikhail’s mother — who died in January after what Mooty describes as an accidental overdose.

“She had a prescription, but yeah, she overdid it,” Mooty said. “Died in her sleep. And her heart was already broken.”

Now, Mooty is calling for stronger safety measures in the area, including more surveillance cameras and closer monitoring of bullying on social media.

“Hey, how about some incentive for small business owners for better security?” Mooty said. “More cameras?”

Mooty says she is now working again because she depleted her life savings paying for the funeral of both her grandson and daughter.

She has a GoFundMe setup to raise money to get a lawyer to continue fighting for justice for her family. If you’d like to support her go fund me, please click here.
