If you get caught in a rip current, swim parallel to the shore until you feel the pull weaken.

After pulling the man from the water, lifeguards immediately began life-saving measures before the victim was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On Monday, Volusia County Beach Safety said they believe the drowning was rip current-related.

Residents and visitors are being urged to swim in front of staffed lifeguard towers, saying it significantly increases safety in the ocean.
