ORLANDO, Fla. – Jury selection is underway in the trial of DeMorris Hunter, a convicted killer, charged with the 2002 murder of Theresa Green in Orange County.
Hunter, 59, faces the prospect of the death penalty if convicted.
Prosecutors first signaled their intent to seek the death penalty in 2015, the same year Hunter was extradited to Florida following his indictment in Green’s death.
Hunter had been serving a 110-year sentence in California for the unrelated killing of another woman.
He has been detained at the Orange County Jail ever since his extradition.
The case has endured multiple delays that included COVID-related issues and, most recently, a heart attack Hunter suffered.
Jury selection is expected to last until Thursday. Opening statements are slated to get underway next Monday.
