2-year-old girl dies after being hit by car on New Smyrna Beach, officials say

NEW SMYRNA, Fla – A 2-year-old girl died after she was hit by a car on the beach in New Smyrna Beach on Saturday, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The preliminary investigation found the child ran into a traffic lane and was struck by a vehicle around 4:30 p.m. on the beach near East Seventh Avenue, officials said.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver remained at the scene. Officials said it does not appear speed or impairment were factors.
