Man dead after fight leads to shooting in Cocoa front yard, deputies say

COCOA, Fla. – A 22-year-old man is behind bars after a fight in the front yard of a Cocoa home ended with a deadly shooting, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said.

Around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies received a call reporting a man had been shot in the front yard of a Brophy Boulevard residence. When they arrived on scene, they found a victim, who was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, deputies said.

Investigators identified the victim as Xavier Carroll. Deputies determined that Terrance Skinner Jr. and Carroll had gotten into a verbal altercation that escalated before Skinner pulled out a gun and shot Carroll multiple times.

Skinner was located at the scene and taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Brevard County Jail, where he is being held on no bond.

Skinner was charged with first-degree premeditated murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
