PALM BAY, Fla. – A bomb threat at a Palm Bay Walmart that prompted a swift evacuation Friday morning appears to have been a hoax, police said.
The threat was reported around 8:15 a.m. at the Walmart on Malabar Road. The initial report indicated two bombs had been placed in the men’s restroom and that a hostage may have been taken. The first unit arrived on scene just three minutes later, at 8:17 a.m., and evacuations began immediately.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad and a K-9 unit assisted Palm Bay Police in clearing the building. No explosive devices were found, and police said there was no hostage situation.
“The FBI is on scene working with our department, and at this time we believe there to be a hoax,” Palm Bay Police said. “Investigation remains active but ongoing.”
Walmart is in the process of reopening, police said.
