ORLANDO, Fla. – The investigation into the shooting death of a child in Orlando is “complex,” a spokesperson with Orlando police said Monday.
Three days after a child was found with a gunshot wound at the Stella West Apartments, few details of the police investigation are public.
The child, whose name and age have not been released, was taken to the hospital but died from their injuries.
A spokesperson with the department sent News 6 the following statement Monday:
“We understand there is significant public interest in this case, and we appreciate the community’s patience as the investigation continues.
Our detectives have been working around the clock since receiving the call and are committed to conducting a thorough investigation.
As with many death investigations, this is a complex case that requires investigators to carefully examine all available evidence and follow every lead. The investigation remains active and ongoing. Releasing details at this stage, even information that may seem minor, could jeopardize the investigation, compromise evidence.
To protect the integrity of the investigation and ensure the facts are thoroughly established, we are unable to provide additional information at this time.
We will share updates as appropriate when doing so will not compromise the investigation."
News 6 also reached out to management at the apartment complex, but we have not heard back.
A response from the Medical Examiner’s Office for Orange and Osceola Counties cited the existence of an active police investigation, meaning the office could not reveal the identity of the child.
