ORANGE CITY, Fla. – A Central Florida man is facing charges with attempted second-degree murder after authorities say he shot another man multiple times during a family-related dispute while his two young children were inside the vehicle with him.
Officers with the Orange City Police Department responded at about 11:15 p.m. Friday, July 24, to a report of a shooting at the Reserve at Orange City apartment complex.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victim, who police said was unarmed, became involved in a confrontation with the father of his girlfriend’s children. During the dispute, investigators said Brown allegedly fired multiple rounds from inside his vehicle, striking the victim several times. Police said Brown’s two children were also inside the vehicle during the shooting.
Officers secured the scene, provided emergency medical aid to the victim and arrested the suspect without incident, police said. Investigators said there are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the public.
The victim was taken to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, where he underwent surgery. He is listed in stable condition and recovering in the intensive care unit, according to police.
Authorities identified the suspect as Malik I. Brown, 27, of Longwood, Florida. Brown is facing three charges that include attempted second-degree murder and child neglect.
The Orange City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to investigate the shooting.
