Man flees in stolen car, found hiding under vehicle by K-9, Marion County deputies say

Chad Cordey, 38, charged with grand theft

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A man is facing charges after he led deputies on a chase in a stolen vehicle before a K-9 tracked him down as he was hiding underneath a vehicle, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Saturday, deputies spotted a stolen Nissan Altima near NE Jacksonville Road and NE 35th Street.

When a deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver bolted. MCSO Air One tracked the driver from above while ground units deployed stop sticks on NE Highway 314. He drove over them anyway — tires shredding until they fell off completely, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Chad Cordey, can be seen in chopper video ditching the car and fleeing through a nearby yard, all while holding up his sagging shorts as he ran.

With help from neighbors, K-9 Koen tracked Cordey to his hiding spot beneath a parked vehicle.

Cordrey, who deputies said is a registered sex offender, was transported to the Marion County Jail and faces charges of grand theft, fleeing and eluding, and resisting arrest.
