Woman hospitalized after alligator bite in Marion County

Woman was bit in her arm while swimming in the Silver River.

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – The Silver River is closed until further notice after an alligator bite incident on Friday, Aug. 8th.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said it was notified that an adult woman was bitten on the arm by an alligator while swimming in the Silver River.

Good Samaritans pulled the woman from the water and brought her to shore. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

FWC officers and a contracted nuisance alligator trapper are at the scene working to locate and trap the alligator. The Sheriff’s Department also is assisting.

The park remains open, and the Ocklawaha River remains open to visitors.
