LEESBURG, Fla. – A deputy-involved shooting broke out in Leesburg on Thursday afternoon after a 911 call came in for an armed domestic battery, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
In a release, investigators said the call was reported at 10110 Morningside Drive just before 3 p.m.
“Once our deputies arrived, they were confronted with an individual armed with a firearm whose actions forced our deputies to discharge their firearms,” the release reads. “All law enforcement personnel are safe and uninjured.”
News 6 has learned the suspect is dead. The firearm referenced in the earlier quote from the press release has been confirmed to be a handgun.
Per standard procedures for deputy-involved shootings, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is set to investigate what happened.
Meanwhile, the deputies involved in the incident will be placed on leave as the investigation continues, the sheriff’s office noted.
