Orlando ranked No. 1 best city for coffee lovers in America

A new WalletHub survey put Orlando at the top of the list — ahead of Portland, Seattle, and 97 other cities

ORLANDO, Fla. – If you live in Orlando and can’t start your day without a cup of coffee, you’re in the right city. A new study by personal finance website WalletHub ranks Orlando the No. 1 city in the country for coffee lovers.

WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 12 indicators — everything from the number of coffee shops per capita to the average price of a cappuccino to the share of households that own coffee makers. Orlando came out on top with a score of 68.55 out of 100.

Why Orlando brews the best coffee scene

The city earned its top ranking in several categories. Orlando ranks third in the nation for the total number of coffee shops, coffee houses, and cafés per capita. It also holds the No. 1 spot for coffee and tea shops offering free Wi-Fi per capita — making it a go-to for remote workers and students who mix their caffeine with productivity.

Orlando households spend an average of more than $154 per year on coffee, according to the study. And for those who like something sweet with their cup, Orlando also ties for the most donut shops per capita in the country.

The city ranks among the top cities for affordable coffee shops rated at least 4.5 stars out of 5, meaning quality doesn’t always cost extra here.

Florida shows up strong

Orlando wasn’t the only Florida city to make a strong showing. Miami came in third overall, and Tampa ranked sixth — giving the Sunshine State three cities in the top 10. Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington, which are often synonymous with coffee culture, came in second and fifth, respectively.

Coffee by the numbers

The love of coffee stretches well beyond Orlando. A survey by the National Coffee Association found that 66% of Americans drink coffee every day.

WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo noted that in the cities most passionate about coffee, the average household can spend as much as $327 per year on the beverage. As many as 33% of households in some cities also have machines for making coffee at home.
